July Makowos
July Ilyich Makowos ( Russian Юлий Ильич Маковоз , English transcription Yuly Makovoz * 19th May 1937 in Horlivka , Donetsk Oblast , Soviet Union ) is a Russian mathematician.
Makowos received his doctorate in 1968 in Minsk (dissertation: Theorems about best approximations and diameters of sets in Banach spaces , Russian). and was there at the university. In 1975 he emigrated to the USA. Most recently he taught at the University of Massachusetts (Lowell), where he was retired.
He is co-author of a monograph on approximation theory in the basic teaching series.
