Julia Maria Boenisch (* 1980 in Gelsenkirchen ) is a German online - journalist .

Bönisch grew up in Gelsenkirchen and graduated from the Schalke Gymnasium in Gelsenkirchen in 1999 . She completed a degree in journalism and business administration at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt , which she began in 2000, with a diploma in 2005 and then worked for two years in development aid.

From 2007 she worked at sueddeutsche.de and in 2012 became deputy editor-in-chief . On January 1, 2017, she was promoted to editor-in-chief. After Stefan Plöchinger left on January 1, 2018, she was the sole editor-in-chief of sueddeutsche.de. Statements she made in May 2019 on the management culture and the separation of editorial and publishing houses led to controversies within the editorial staff and with the works council. On October 28, 2019, Süddeutsche Verlag announced the separation from Bönisch.

On March 1, 2020, she became a member of the management of Stiftung Warentest as Head of Digital Transformation and Publications .
