The Schalke school Gelsenkirchen , founded on 20 April 1876 and is the oldest Gelsenkirchen school . It is located in the south of the Schalke district .

history

In 1876 the higher middle school was set up as a forerunner of today's high school. In 1882 it was converted into a Realprogymnasium , and in 1884 into a Realgymnasium . In 1898 it was converted into a humanistic grammar school , which was renamed the Gelsenkirchen grammar school in 1904.

In 1933 the school was renamed Adolf-Hitler-Gymnasium. During the National Socialism, subjects such as race studies and other aspects of National Socialist ideologies were taught.

From 1946 there was the Schalker Penne , before the name was changed to Schalker Gymnasium in 1955 . The school bears this name to this day.

Current situation

In 2003 all science rooms, including the IT rooms, were renovated and equipped with new inventory, including a ceiling projector and a teacher's computer.

In the 2004/2005 school year, two different profile classes, beginning in level 5, were set up. The first profile was a science and technology-oriented class (MINT / D), which received additional lessons in the subjects: mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology and German, the second profile class had a sports focus.

In August 2006, due to the move of the Gelsenkirchen evening grammar school to Franz-Bielefeld-Straße, the former branch of the Schalker grammar school, an additional IT room with 32 new computers, and a mathematics room with a further 16 laptops were set up. In total, the school has around 60 computers and almost 50 laptops, which are available for the students.

Since summer 2010 the school has offered the " MINT / D" profile for all pupils .

In the 2010/2011 school year, 42 teachers taught around 600 students. In addition, there were six trainee lawyers at the Schalke Gymnasium during the school year . 38 teachers plus four trainee teachers have been teaching at this school since summer 2011.

Since the 2011/12 school year, the Schalke Gymnasium has been taking part in the trial "Abitur at Gymnasien after 13 years" and is thus one of the G9 Gymnasiums.

Due to savings in the budget of the North Rhine-Westphalian state government, the average class size at this school had to be increased to over 30 students in some cases.

School policy

In 2004, as in all of Gelsenkirchen, the so-called Abischerz was abolished, which caused incomprehension among the students, as there was no constructive communication with the decision-makers in advance. The state government of North Rhine-Westphalia was also not completely uninvolved in this decision, as it stipulated that there should no longer be any lessons canceled.
