Julia Lazarus

Julia Lazarus (* 1971 in Berlin ) is a German filmmaker and visual artist.

Life

Lazarus studied experimental media design from 1992 to 1998 at the Berlin University of the Arts and from 1995 to 1996 at the Film School, California Institute of the Arts , Los Angeles, USA.

She has been working as a freelance artist and filmmaker since 2001 and has realized numerous film and video works that have been shown at exhibitions and international festivals at home and abroad. In 2002, the short film "a lucia", made together with Ben Pointeker , received the ORF-Kunst-Pieces prize on the Diagonale in Graz . In 2005, the collective produced film “Forst” was awarded the Diagonale Documentary Film Prize in Graz. The documentary “the briefing center” was presented at the Globale 08 in Berlin , at rencontre international Paris / Berlin / Madrid , and was shown in numerous exhibitions. Julia Lazarus' films are distributed by Sixpackfilm Wien and e-flux, Berlin / New York. Further works are represented by Galerie Funke, Berlin.

Julia Lazarus was a member of Mikro e. V. Berlin and ran the DJ radio station TwenFM together with Sacha Benedetti from 2004 to 2006. Since 2010 she has been involved in the context of “have and need” for appropriate production and working conditions for visual artists in Berlin.
