Julia Maria Kornelia Verlinden (born January 18, 1979 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German environmental scientist and member of the German Bundestag ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ).

Julia Verlinden grew up near Cologne . From 1998 to 2005 she studied environmental sciences at the University of Lüneburg with a diploma. From 2006 to December 2012 she was a research assistant at the Federal Environment Agency in Dessau. From January 2013 until she moved into the Bundestag in October 2013, she was head of the energy efficiency department at the Federal Environment Agency. In parallel to her work, she wrote her dissertation on “Energy efficiency policy as a contribution to climate protection” as a Heinrich Böll scholarship holder . Analysis of the implementation of the EU Building Directive in Germany (residential buildings) ”, with which she received her doctorate in political science at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg in 2012.

Julia Verlinden represented her party from 2002 to 2006 in the City Council of Lüneburg . She then belonged to the district council of the Lüneburg district until 2011 . She won a mandate in the 2013 federal election and was elected spokeswoman for energy policy for her parliamentary group in December 2013. In the 18th electoral term she was a full member of the Committee for Economic Affairs and Energy of the German Bundestag and a deputy member of the Committee for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety . She is also a deputy member of the advisory board of the Federal Network Agency for Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Post and Railways. In 2014 she also became a deputy member of the Federal-State Commission for the search for locations for the storage of highly radioactive nuclear waste (Repository Search Commission).

Julia Verlinden was the top candidate of the Greens Lower Saxony for the 2017 federal election . At the state delegates' conference in Hanover on February 18, 2017, she prevailed against two competitors in first place on the state list of Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen Niedersachsen .

In the 2017 federal election , Julia Verlinden received 14.8% of the first votes in the federal constituency, constituency 037 Lüchow-Dannenberg Lüneburg, and thus achieved the best green first vote result in all of Lower Saxony. She moved back into the Bundestag via her party's state list.
