Julien Denormandie (born August 14, 1980 in Cahors , Lot ) is a French politician of the party La République en Marche (LREM). He has been Minister for Agriculture and Food in the Castex cabinet since July 2020 .

Career

Denormandie completed a degree at the École nationale du génie rural, des eaux et des forêts (agricultural, water and forest engineering) in AgroParisTech and an MBA at the Collège des ingénieurs . He was then accepted as a civil servant in the civil service in 2004, where he was initially responsible for foreign trade relations in the Ministry of Finance . From 2008 to 2010 he worked as a business advisor at the French embassy in Egypt. He then became an advisor to Finance Minister Pierre Moscovici and Foreign Trade Minister Nicole Bricq . From 2014 to 2016 he was Deputy Office Manager of Emmanuel Macron when he was Minister of Economic Affairs.

In March 2016, Denormandy left the civil service and became Deputy Secretary General of the En Marche political movement founded by Emmanuel Macron . He was the driving force behind the election campaign for Macron for the 2017 presidential election and in the election campaign for his party La République en Marche for the subsequent parliamentary election . In the Philippe II cabinet , Denormandie was State Secretary in the Ministry for Territorial Cohesion from June 2017 and Minister for Urban Development and Housing from October 2018 . Under Prime Minister Jean Castex , he was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Food on July 6, 2020.

Denormandie is married to Cécile Ophèle and has four children.
