Julius Klaucke (born July 11, 1826 in Wald , † August 4, 1903 in Solingen ) was a German entrepreneur in Solingen.

Life

Julius Klaucke was born in Wald on July 11, 1826 and was an engraver and stamp maker by profession.

Since Klaucke used hardened cast steel for the production of his stamping tools, in contrast to the already established suppliers, Klaucke was able to conclude a delivery contract for postmarks with the Oberpostdirektion - Düsseldorf in mid-1871.

As a result of the contract, he produced the so-called horseshoe stamps (or Klaucke horseshoe stamps) from 1871 to 1875 .

The General Order of February 13, 1875 by the General Post Office in Berlin made it necessary for Klaucke to revise the shape of his stamping tools. This is how the Klaucke stamp (Klauckestempel) named after him was created , a mechanical stamp which differed from the other standard stamps of the time due to the letters characteristic of Klaucke.

Early mail items with stamp impressions from stamping tools from the hand of Klauckes form separate collecting areas in philately , some of which are very expensive.

In 1881, as the legal successor to Theodor Fischer , Klaucke applied for a patent for a certain shape of scissors with the United States Patent Office in the USA .

Julius Klaucke died on August 4th, 1903 in Solingen.
