Julius Koch (entrepreneur)
Julius Koch (born February 19, 1816 in Jebenhausen ; died March 14, 1895 in Hechingen ) was a grain merchant and purveyor to the royal Württemberg court . He was Albert Einstein 's maternal grandfather .
Life
Julius Koch initially carried the name Julius Dörzbacher and later took the name Koch. In 1847 he married Jette Bernheimer (1825–1886), also a native of Jebenhausen. From 1852 the couple lived in Cannstatt , where they lived initially at Badstrasse 20 and later at Brückenstrasse 44. The daughter Pauline (1858–1920) emerged from the connection and became Albert Einstein's mother. Her grave in the Israelite cemetery in Cannstatt has been preserved. The Koch couple's other children were their daughter Fanny (mother of Elsa Einstein ) and their sons Jakob and Caesar, both of whom were international grain traders.
Julius Koch was a successful businessman and financed part of the factory of his son-in-law Hermann Einstein in Munich.
Julius Koch was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Hechingen ; the tombstone is preserved. From 1894 to 1895 Julius Koch lived in Hechingen in the household of his daughter Fanny Einstein and his son-in-law Rudolf Einstein.
