Julius Mermagen

Julius Mermagen (born August 18, 1874 in Munich ; † July 28, 1954 there ) was a German painter.

Career

After attending the commercial drawing school, Julius Mermagen studied decorative painting at the Royal School of Applied Arts in Munich's Luisenstrasse from 1889 to 1894 under the direction of Prof. von Lange. After successfully completing his training, Mermagen first went to Engelhard & Radeweg in Elberfeld as the first draftsman . From 1897 he then taught decorative painting and plant drawing as a lecturer at the local arts and crafts school. In 1900 he was studying with Gottlob Moritz Meurer in Rome . In 1914 Mermagen was awarded the title of professor. Together with colleagues, Mermagen founds the "Bergische Künstlergenossenschaft".

Work

The works of Julius Mermagen mainly include landscapes, flowers, portraits, still lifes and drawings. Many of his works were created in Elberfeld.
