His military career began on August 10, 1878. On this day he began his one-year voluntary service in the Galician Infantry Regiment No. 56. A year later he began a two-year course of study at the Technical University in Vienna (now the Technical University of Vienna), in order to finally decide to continue his military career in his original regiment. On March 1, 1914, he took command of the Galician Infantry Regiment No. 57. Six months later, on September 14, 1914, he was injured and taken prisoner by Russia . Due to his poor health, he was released in January 1918 and handed over to the Danish authorities. In April he returns to Austria, becomes major general and, after four months' leave, is assigned to the command of the 33rd Infantry Division in Italy. On November 6, 1918, immediately after the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, he registered in Krakow for service in the Polish Army. From November 1918 to August 1920 he was the commanding officer for the defense of Przemyśl and the Bielsko district and chairman of the border committee in Poznan to redefine the Polish borders. He was also part of the commandantry of the Pomerania General Military District and from August to November 1920 commanding officer of the fortress and the Chełmno section .

On May 1, 1920, he was appointed lieutenant general retrospectively to April 1, 1920. This move was probably based on the general change in military grades of March 27, 1919, after which the original major general was made sub-lieutenant general. Juliusz Bijak went into retirement on April 1, 1921. He moved from Krakow to Wadowice and in 1929 published his "Memoirs of Military Service". On October 26, 1923, the President of the Republic of Poland, Stanisław Wojciechowski , confirmed the appointment of Bijak as major general in the Polish Army. After his death on April 21, 1943, he was buried in the parish cemetery in Wadowice.
