July (band)

July was a British pop group in the late 1960s. Some of her recordings appeared on various psychedelic rock samplers over the years , most notably the tracks My Clown , Dandelion Seeds and The Way .

history

In the early 1960s, the skiffle group "The Playboys" was formed in the Ealing district of London . The name of the group changed to "The Thoughts", then to "The Tomcats"; they were now playing rhythm and blues . In 1966 they made a number of appearances in Spain.

Back in England they gave themselves the name "July". The band at that time consisted of Tom Newman (vocals), Tony Duhig (guitar), Jon Field (flute, keyboard), Chris Jackson (drums) and Alan James (bass). Her music was now heading towards psychedelic rock . They released an album and two singles before breaking up in 1969.

Tom Newman became a successful music producer, including for Mike Oldfield . Tony Duhig played in the band Jade Warrior . Alan James worked with Cat Stevens and Kevin Coyne , among others . Over time, several July compilations appeared, some with previously unpublished material.
