The Young Free Voters , abbreviated to JFW, is the youth organization of the Federal Association of Free Voters organized as a party (not to be confused with the Federal Association of Free Voters ).

history

The Free Voters originally represented groups of voters at the municipal level, which eventually came together loosely in state and federal associations. In order to be able to take part in state and federal elections, however, state associations organized in a manner similar to a party were gradually founded, and finally a federal association in 2009. As is common with other parties, youth associations were also founded. This is how the youth association of free voters in Bavaria came into being in 2003. The state association in Hesse was founded in 2013. The federal association was finally established in early 2017. The JFW Hamburg was founded in mid-2017 as the youngest state association to date.

After it was possible in the local elections in Bavaria in 2020 that several lists per party exist, the local district association in the Eichstätt district ran for its own list and finally won three district council mandates with 4.94% of the votes.

structure

According to the statutes of the parent party, the organization is divided into state associations, district associations, district associations and local associations.

There is (as of July 2020) in Bavaria, Hesse, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania each a state association of the JFW. Felix Locke has been the state chairman of JFW Bayern since 2018. Laura Schulz has been the state chairman in Hesse since 2018. Daniel Meinke heads the Hamburg regional association. The Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional association has been headed by Philipp Lübbert since 2016.

Peter Schüppenhauer has been the acting chairman of the federal association since 2017.

membership

Every member of the Federal Association of Free Voters under the age of 35 is automatically a member of the respectively subdivided Association of Young Free Voters. Separate membership only with the JFW is not possible and is therefore always linked to the federal association.
