The Young Ecologists (JÖ) are the youth organization of the Ecological Democratic Party (ÖDP) .

Content profile

The political demands of the young ecologists do not differ significantly from those of the mother party.

Among other things, they are calling for a lowering of the voting age and the establishment of youth parliaments, as well as a "modern circular economy that secures jobs". Furthermore, they are not only aiming to phase out nuclear energy in the short term , but also to phase out hard coal in the medium term . The generation of energy should be designed to be as regenerative as possible by generating energy from the sun , wind and biomass . According to their ideas, cloning and genetic engineering should be banned. Furthermore, they advocate trade agreements for fair trade and position themselves against xenophobia , right-wing radicalism , left- wing radicalism and anti-Semitism .

structure

As a federal association of the ÖDP, the JÖ is an independent organization with the right to issue its own statutes. Anyone who has not yet reached the age of 33 can become a member. There is no minimum age limit. Active voting rights can be exercised from the age of 12, candidates for positions on the board are possible from the age of 14.

Since 2014, some district and district associations have been newly founded: JÖ Aschaffenburg, JÖ Landshut, JÖ Mainburg, JÖ Niederbayern, JÖ Oberpfalz. North Rhine-Westphalia has its own regional association.

The young ecologists developed from various youth initiatives close to the mother party at regional and local level. The initiatives still had different names and were originally not organizationally linked to one another. In Ravensburg there was an organization called ÖDP-Jugend , while in the Ahrweiler district and in Regensburg there were already those called Young Ecologists .

The merger of these individual groups took place with the support of the ÖDP on September 5, 1992 in Backnang . The name of the association, Die Junge Ökologen, which had already been borne by some of the groups and now shared, was adopted and a statute and a program were adopted . In addition, a six-person board with Oliver Müller at the top was elected. The journalist Franz Alt , who is close to the ÖDP, was a guest speaker at this event.

Since 1995 the organization has built up various subdivisions, especially district associations, in all federal states, especially in Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate. In February 1998 they first published Generation ÖX , which has been published every six months for some time. In 2011 it was reissued as Generation 2.Ö.

Further federal chairmen in the following years were Johannes Rößler, Martin Viehöver, Wolf Hagenau, Simon Kellner, Tanja Pfisterer and Christoph Peschke. The current federal chairman of the young ecologists is Christian Stadelmann.

The geographical focus of the members is in southern Germany , especially in Bavaria .
