Game of Games 2003: Hit Games for Many

Jungle Speed (Jungle Speed) is one of Pierric Yakovenko and Thomas Vuarchex developed maps and reaction game, which in 1997 Asmodée appeared.

Style of play

The game contains 80 square cards and a totem, which is made of wood or plastic, depending on the version. A small fabric bag is also included for storage.

procedure

The cards are shuffled and distributed evenly to the players, the totem is placed in the middle of the table so that it is easily accessible to all players. One after the other, the players reveal a card and place it face up on their discard pile. They can only use one hand. If two cards show the same symbol (regardless of color), these two players try to grab the totem first. The loser has to pick up his discard cards and those of his opponent as well as any cards put down under the totem (see below) and place them under his draw pile. If there are several losers, they must split the cards among themselves. If, on the other hand, you reach for the totem by mistake, you have to pick up the filing of all players. The loser continues the game by revealing a new card. In addition, there are several special cards that modify these rules:

  • 4 arrows pointing inwards: All players must immediately reach for the totem. The winner puts his cards under the totem
  • 4 colored arrows pointing inwards: Instead of the symbol, the correspondence of the color of the card counts until a duel is triggered, the totem is grabbed or a new special card is revealed
  • 4 arrows pointing outwards: All players must reveal a card at the same time. If this does not trigger a duel, the player must reveal a new card

If several duels are started at the same time, only that is carried out by the person who grabs the totem first. All further duels expire. The game ends when a player has lost his last card (s) in a duel. In this case, he won. For three players it is recommended to sort out the colored arrow cards, with two players each player should play with one hand on his own pile.

Extensions & versions

A large number of versions and expansions have been released for Jungle Speed. This selection is limited to the variants still available at Asmodée.

The extension

This expansion contains 80 new cards with new symbols. This makes it even more difficult to distinguish between the symbols, and 2 new special cards are also included:

  • 4 hands: The players must try to place their hands on the totem without it falling over. If this succeeds, the player who has his hand lowest may place his discard pile under the totem. If the totem falls over, the guilty party must take all of the cards that are turned up (provided the question of guilt can be clarified).
  • 4 arrows pointing to the right: Instead of your top card you have to pay attention to your left neighbor. The card remains active until a duel is played, the totem falls over or another action card is revealed. Several cards of this kind add up.

Jungle Speed Safari

This version is specifically aimed at children aged 5 and over. The cards are printed with different animals and there are 5 totems on which typical food of the animals is shown. Each player has a scoring pile on which cards won are placed or from which cards must be given as a penalty. When a so-called hungry animal is revealed, all players must reach for the corresponding food totem. In the case of an angry animal this has to be mimicked, in the case of a chameleon either the totem or an object with the color of the animal has to be touched (depending on the previously agreed version of the rules). When a player reveals a hunter, he must try to touch another player's scoring pile before the other player can turn it face down.

Jungle Speed - Big Box

The Big Box contains the basic game in a particularly generous version with 120 cards. Thus it can be played with up to 10 players.

Jungle speed revolution

In addition to the material contained in the basic game, Revolution also includes an electronic base which randomly plays commands. These must then be carried out. This may mean that the totem has to be grabbed (under special conditions) or a rule modifies the game.

Jungle speed for the Wii

In 2009 Nintendo released a version of the game for the Wii .
