Asmodée Editions

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Asmodée Éditions is a French games publisher and a central part of the Asmodée Group, the world's largest games publisher. The company was founded in 1995 by former employees of the role-playing game publisher Siriz Productions. As a publisher, Asmodée publishes its own games as well as French editions of the games of other publishers, but in the various studios of the group, several acquired publishers now publish and sell games in many parts of North America and Europe and in several languages.

Profile and history

Asmodée originally sold games from the Descartes Editeur and Eurogames brands , which they took over, but no new releases have been placed under these brands since the purchase.

In 2014 Asmodée merged with the American game publisher Days of Wonder and shortly afterwards with Fantasy Flight Games , which have since worked as independent studios under the umbrella of the Asmodée Group. In 2016 Asmodée acquired the English-language rights to Catan games from Mayfair Games and founded Catan Studio , Inc.

In 2016, F2Z Entertainment ( Z-Man Games , Plaid Hat Games and Filosophia ) was also taken over and on January 2, 2017 Asmodée and the German game publisher Heidelberger Spieleverlag announced their merger. The takeover of the Spanish game publisher Edge Entertainment followed immediately . In 2018, the previously independent German publisher Lookout Games was also taken over by Asmodée.

After the acquisition of these large game publishers and together with further takeovers and the acquisition of the rights to the family game series Spot-It! In 2015, Asmodée now controls the rights to numerous popular games and game series such as Ticket to Ride , Dixit , Citadels , Small World , 7 Wonders and Catan .

Overall, the following studios belong to Asmodée today internationally:

There are also numerous partnerships with publishers with whom Asmodée jointly develops games and whose games are distributed internationally through Asmodée.

Digital games

In addition to its physical publishing rights, Asmodée has started developing video games based on its board game brands for PC and mobile devices. Many of these build on software libraries that Days of Wonder created for their digital version of Ticket to Ride. In January 2017, the company released digital versions of Mysterium and Potion Explosion , in addition to the existing titles from the acquired companies. Philippe Dao, the chief marketing officer for Asmodee Digital, announced 20 more games by the end of 2017.

In October 2017, Asmodée and Fantasy Flight Games announced the creation of Fantasy Flight Interactive. This is an arm of the merged companies that will digitally implement Fantasy Flight Games physical board games.
