Dobble is a card game that works as an observation and reaction game. It was published in Germany by Asmodee GmbH, a subsidiary of the French Asmodee France . The game corresponds to the game Spot it! Published in the USA by Blue Orange Games in 2009 . designed by Denis Blanchot, Jacques Cottereau and Play Factory (Jean-François Andréani, Toussain Benedetti, Guillaume Gille-Naves and Igor Polouchine) . Most variants of the game are sold in a round tin can.

In the standard version, the game contains 55 round cards, each showing exactly eight symbols. There are a total of 57 different symbols. The specialty is that the symbols on the individual cards are chosen in such a way that two cards always match exactly in one symbol. Another variant of the game contains 30 cards, each showing six symbols. The game is designed for two to eight players. The standard versions are recommended for ages seven and up, the simpler versions for ages three and up. The playing time is about 10 to 15 minutes.

Gameplay

Dobble player

All cards are dealt equally to the other players. Eight (or six) of the symbols are printed on each card. The last card is placed face up on the table. Now all players must simultaneously compare the symbols on the card with the symbols on their card on top. If a player finds the same symbol on both cards, he can put his card on the stack by naming the symbol.

The first player to discard all of his cards wins.

In addition to this gameplay, Dobble offers five other variants in its instructions.

On the mathematical structure of the game

The game Dobble can be based on the projective plane over the residue field , with points and describe as many straights. This is clearly a matrix of:

  • 7 × 7 points arranged at right angles,
  • 8 × 7 straight lines that connect the points horizontally, vertically and with different gradients from 1–6 (whereby inclined straight lines re-enter on the opposite side after leaving the square field in the sense of the remainder of the division and other possible straight lines are not taken into account that the connect the same points; for example, the straight lines with slope 1/2 connect exactly the same points as the straight lines with slope 4 ),
  • 8 further points, which represent the intersections of parallel lines at infinity,
  • as well as a straight line that connects the points at infinity.

You can represent each symbol by a point and each playing card by a straight line so that each card contains exactly the eight symbols through which the straight line runs. Since two straight lines always intersect at one point, this point corresponds to the symbol that corresponds on both cards. In the production of Dobble, two of the possible 57 cards were omitted in order to have a starting card even with three players. ( , , )

The game variant with 31 cards corresponds to the model with .
