Junicode ("Junius-Unicode") is a Unicode font developed by Peter S. Baker , University of Virginia . The current version contains 3280 characters. The open source font published under the SIL Open Font License is not only available in the regular style but also in italic, bold and bold italic versions, which contain fewer characters than the regular style. The Latin letters resemble the classic typeface of the Clarendon Press of the 17th century.
Junicode largely follows the recommendations of the Medieval Unicode Font Initiative (Version 4.0): The script contains numerous glyph that in medieval texts (Old or Middle High German, Old or Middle English, Middle Latin, etc.) were used, and is therefore particularly suitable for medieval studies Texts.
With Junicode New the same developer is working on a new version that will cover the same character set, but will offer some enhancements, e.g. B. five font weights, three font widths and new OpenType functions.
