Junta Autónoma das Estradas

The Junta Autonoma das Estradas (JAE) was the Portuguese road authority created in 1927 by the then Ministry of Economic Affairs and Tourism ( Ministério de Comércio e Turismo ).

Their task was the planning, creation and maintenance of the roads in Portugal. It was dissolved in 1999 and the IEP - Instituto das Estradas de Portugal was created as its successor. This was restructured in 2002 and dissolved in 2004, its successor was the joint stock company Estradas de Portugal , whose shares are wholly state-owned.
