Junta Departamental de Montevideo

The Junta Departamental de Montevideo is a building in the Uruguayan capital, Montevideo .

The building is located in Ciudad Vieja at Calle 25 de Mayo 609-617 , corner of Juan Carlos Gómez . It is composed of the two parts of the Casa de Francisco Gómez and the Confitería El Telégrafo . The Casa de Francisco Gómez , built in 1870 (other sources name the period 1865 to 1875) and conceived as a residential building at the time, covers the section of 25 de Mayo 609 . The architect of this part of the Casa de Francisco Gómez was engineer Ignacio Pedrálbez . No information is available regarding the construction time and which architect was responsible for the Confitería El Telégrafo . The integration of the two buildings and the renovation in the years 1985 to 1989 took place under the direction of the architects Roberto Monteagudo and Manuel Aguado with the aim of housing the Junta Departamental de Montevideo (the parliament of the Departamento Montevideo ). While the Casa F. Gómez is a 15-meter-high, three-story building with a basement with an architecture that can be attributed to historical eclecticism due to its rich decorations , the floors of which are connected by a marble staircase inside and whose floor area is 557 m², this shows Confitería El Telégrafo , which originally housed Turkish baths in the basement and the El Telegrafo pastry shop on the ground floor and first floor , a height of ten meters with a two-storey construction and a floor area of 1183 m².

The part of the Casa de Francisco Gómez has been classified as the Monumento Histórico Nacional since 1975 .
