Jurgis Dvarionas

Jurgis Dvarionas (born January 13, 1943 in Kaunas ) is a Lithuanian violinist and music teacher, professor .

Life

In 1965 Dvarionas completed his studies and in 1969 the aspirantur at the Moscow Conservatory . In 1973 he received his doctorate as a candidate in the arts . From 1969 Dvarionas taught at the Lietuvos konservatorija and from 1992 as a professor at the Lietuvos muzikos ir teatro akademija . From 1989 to 1998 he headed the Lithuanian Cultural Foundation ( Lietuvos kultūros fondas ). From 1989 to 1991 he was a member of the Sąjūdis council.

Dvarionas had concerts in the Soviet Union , USA, Finland , Poland , Spain , Germany.

family

His father was Balys Dvarionas (1904–1972), composer, pianist and conductor. His mother was Aldona Smilgaitė-Dvarionienė (1907–1982), a pianist. His sister was Aldona Dvarionaitė (1939-2000), a pianist.

Jurgis Dvarionas is married and has two children. His son Justas Dvarionas (* 1967) is a Lithuanian pianist and music teacher. His daughter Aistė Dvarionaitė-Beržanskienė (* 1974) is a violinist and music teacher.
