Yuri Nikolajewitsch Arzutanow
Yuri Nikolajewitsch Arzutanow ( Russian Юрий Николаевич Арцутанов ; born October 5, 1929 in Leningrad ; † January 1, 2019 ) was a Russian engineer . He was known as the pioneer of the space elevator .
In 1960, Arzutanow wrote the article "В Космос - на электровозе" W Kosmos - na Elektrowose (German: With the electric locomotive into space ; Komsomolskaya Pravda , July 31, 1960), where he suggested the space elevator as an economical and safe way to explore the orbit . He developed this idea on the basis of the work of Konstantin Ziolkowski , who had already proposed in 1895 to build a tower into space.
