The Friesener Warte is 561.7 m above sea level. NN high mountain of the Franconian Alb in the area of the market communities Hirschaid and Buttenheim in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg in Bavaria ( Germany ).
Geographical location
The Friesener Warte is located in the Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park on the western edge of Franconian Switzerland . In the municipality of Hirschaid , it rises around 800 m northeast of the eponymous district of Friesen ; its eastern flank slopes down towards Kälberberg , a part of the municipality of Buttenheim .
The municipality-free area of Eichwald connects to the northern flank of the mountain . While the wooded Friesener Warte slopes to the west and south into the Regnitz valley and the Main-Danube Canal , it is connected to the Alb plateau to the north and east.
Protected areas
The Friesener Warte is part of the northern part of the multi-part fauna-flora-habitat area Albtrauf from the Friesener Warte to the Long Mile (FFH No. 6132-371) and is located in the western part of the Franconian Switzerland protected landscape area, which was founded in 2001 and covers 1,021.64 km². Veldensteiner Forest (LSG No. 322697).
Glider airfield
On the southern foothills of the Friesener Warte, the Buchenberg ( 529.6 m above sea level ) in the north and the waiting ( 521.8 m above sea level ) in the south, there is the glider airfield Friesener Warte with flight operations since 1927, which is managed by the LSV Friesener Warte is operated.
Fortifications
There are several prehistoric and medieval fortifications on the foothills of the Friesener Warte :
