Justin Brown (conductor)

Justin Brown (* 1962 ) is a British conductor and pianist.

Life

Justin Brown studied at Cambridge University and Tanglewood with Seiji Ozawa and Leonard Bernstein. Later he assisted the well-known composers Leonard Bernstein and Luciano Berio . He made his debut as a conductor with the British premiere of Bernstein's Mass .

As Music Director of the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, he won the 2011 John S. Edwards Prize for his commitment to American New Music. Under his direction, the orchestra won three ASCAP awards. In 2012 he made his Carnegie Hall debut at the Spring for Music Festival .

In 2008 Justin Brown became general music director of the Karlsruhe State Theater . In 2012 , the Badische Staatskapelle received the award of the German Music Publishers Association (DMV) for the best concert program 2012/13 for the expansion of the orchestral repertoire and its varied program design . He was named conductor of the year in the 2012 annual magazine of Opernwelt . In the 2012/13 season, Justin Brown's interpretations of Wagner's opera cycle Der Ring des Nibelungen with the Badische Staatskapelle received brilliant reviews.

As a guest conductor, Justin Brown has worked with many world-class orchestras and renowned opera houses around the world. In 2007 he was nominated for a Grammy in the category Best Classical Recording .
