The Justus Liebig Monument (also: Liebig Monument) is a monument in Darmstadt .

History and description

The Justus Liebig Memorial was erected in 1913 on Luisenplatz in front of the Merckschen Engel pharmacy . The Hessian cultural monument was carved out of natural stone by Heinrich Jobst .

A female statue representing the ideal figure of science sits on a high pedestal . In her right hand she holds a ball on which originally stood a small female figure with eight breasts, which was reconstructed in 1992 .

A head relief of the chemist Justus von Liebig , who was born in Darmstadt, is on the front of the base. On both sides of the base there are reliefs depicting his scientific life.
