Käthe, Paula and all the rest

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Käthe, Paula and all the rest , subtitled a reference work , is an encyclopedia with biographies of around "1200 artists and 700 art lovers" of the Association of Berlin Artists (VdBK). The work was published on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the association and, with its data, most of which were published for the first time, “represents a fundamental approach to the topic of female artists.” The first names in the title refer to the most famous representatives of the VdBK Käthe Kollwitz and Paula Modersohn- Becker .

The work published by the VdBK in 1992 appeared in collaboration with the Berlinische Galerie, Museum for Modern Art, Photography and Architecture and was edited by Carola Muysers , Dietmar Fuhrmann , Susanne Jensen , Ralf Burmeister , Ursula Rüter and Nina Lübbren . The lexicon was published by the Kupfergraben publishing company in Berlin with the ISBN 3-89181-411-9 .

On the occasion of the accompanying exhibition Profession without Tradition. 125 years of the Association of Berlin Women Artists , an extensive catalog was published, in which the artists of the VdBK only appear by name in the register. Käthe, Paula and all the rest of them add to this and list on 178 pages the approximately 1200 artists with their short biographies (life data) and short vita (activities, membership times, exhibitions).

The VdBK archive, on which the reference work is based, has been located in the Akademie der Künste, Berlin , since 2017 ; the entries in the reference work can be accessed online.
