Katharina ("Käthe") Apollonia Guss (* December 7, 1906 in Styrum ; † July 12, 1994 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a German operetta singer and actress.

Life

As the oldest of eight children, Käthe Guss grew up in a workers' household in Styrum near Mülheim an der Ruhr. Encouraged by a teacher, she took private singing lessons and applied to the Duisburg Operetta Theater in 1924 . She was accepted into the choir, in which the later operetta star Rudolf Schock - at that time still as a simple choir singer - took part. After working for a sick colleague, she rose to become a permanent soloist and a permanent member of the Duisburg City Theater in 1931. When the theater was destroyed by bombs in 1942, she earned her living singing for the troop care of the German Wehrmacht .

After the war, Käthe Guss founded her own operetta theater in Mülheim in 1946, which, however, had to cease operations at the end of 1948 for financial reasons. After a permanent position in Rheydt , she returned to the Ruhr area in 1953. As a permanent member of the ensemble and soloist at the Oberhausen Theater , she was on stage not only as an operetta singer, but also as an actress, until she retired in 1967.
