Kathe Hoffmann

Käthe Hoffmann (* 1883 , † after 1941) was a German botanist , the number of plant species in New Guinea and Southeast Asia discovered and cataloged, including the euphorbia -Art Annesijoa novoguineensis . Your official botanical author abbreviation is " K.Hoffm. "

Life

Käthe Hoffmann contributed essential insights into the field of botany by discovering and cataloging numerous plant species in New Guinea and Southeast Asia. In total, she first described 354 new land plants . In the list of female scientists with the largest number of first descriptions worldwide in the period from 1735 to 1970, she is in 6th place.

Between 1901 and 1925, together with the botanist Ferdinand Albin Pax , she published six scientific articles in Adolf Engler's work Das Pflanzenreich , which was originally intended to include all plant species on earth.

Käthe Hoffmann remained unmarried throughout her life. The year of her death is often incorrectly given as 1931, but in 1942 she published two articles in the scientific journal Revista Sudamericana de Botánica , including an obituary for Ferdinand Albin Pax, who died in March 1942.
