Royal District Court

The Royal District Court in Düsseldorf 's Stadtmitte district was housed in the wing of the Girardethaus located at what was then Grabenstrasse 19-25 (today: Trinkausstrasse 7).

description

The building was erected in two construction periods from autumn 1905 to spring 1908 based on a design by the architect Hermann vom Endt . The facade is clad with shell limestone, the roof covered with brown-red beaver tails. The figurative and ornamental sculptures on the facade were created by Albert Pehle and H. Stader. The stairs on Grabenstrasse were partly sanded and partly polished in yellow Comblanchien marble.

history

The Royal District Court was founded in 1879 and initially housed in the premises of the Regional Court on Königsplatz (today: the building of the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia on Martin-Luther-Platz). At the end of the 19th century, the premises there had become too small for both courts, so that the district court was relocated to rented premises, including Josephinenstraße 15, Bismarckstraße 8 and Marienstraße 2, and from 1908 it was located in the building on what was then Grabenstraße. From 1913 a new courthouse for the later District and Regional Court of Düsseldorf was built on Mühlenstrasse, which could not be completed until 1923 due to the First World War and the problems of the post-war period. The building on the former Grabenstrasse in which the Royal District Court was located is now part of the WZ Center, an exclusive shop and office center.
