Royal Supreme Court

The Royal Chamber Court was the forerunner of the Reich Chamber Court .

With the Mainzer Landfrieden of 1235 , an imperial law enacted by Emperor Friedrich II , the royal court was initially created. As a result, court judges were gradually installed in all territories. The court court could impose the imperial ban. In addition, as the highest judicial authority, it was responsible for disputes between princes, for all disputes regarding imperial property and imperial rights, and for appeals against judgments that had already been passed. The court court did not have a permanent seat, but met where the emperor or his representative, the imperial court judge , was staying.

After the last session of the royal court, its function was taken over by the royal court, which initially met under the chairmanship of the emperor. At the Diet of Worms in 1495, the Reich Chamber Court replaced the Royal Chamber Court.

These courts, which are responsible for the entire empire, are often abbreviated as "Reichsgericht", even if the Reichsgericht in Leipzig , which was founded in 1871 after the empire was founded, was formally called this .
