The kingdoms of the African Great Lakes (also called " Interlakustrine Kingdoms " or " Kingdoms of the Inter-Lakes Region " ) comprise a number of partly historical, partly still existing kingdoms in the area of ​​the African Great Lakes in East Africa ( Lake Tanganyika , Lake Victoria , Lake Albert , Lake Edward , Lake Kivu , Lake Malawi ), which emerged from the 14th century in the areas of today's states Uganda , Rwanda and Burundi as well as parts of today's states Kenya and Tanzania .
