The Königshöhe is the highest elevation in the " Königsbrücker Heide " nature reserve on the site of the former Königsbrück military training area in Saxony .

geography

The Königshöhe is four kilometers northwest of Königsbrück in the foothills of the West Lusatian hills and mountains . The Pulsnitz flows past to the west . Upstream the jaw mountains are northwest ( 166  m ), northeast of the lambs Berg ( 170  m ) and the mountain goats ( 175  m ) and the east of the mesa ( 180  m ). The Haselberg ( 190  m ) rises to the southeast . The hilltop was formerly surrounded by the villages of Quosdorf , Zietsch , Schmorkau ; Berghäuser and Steinborn .

The Königshöhe with a group of trees forms the intersection of three main aisles of the heather forest. It marks the beginning of the hill country threshold and offers a panoramic view of the natural spaces that meet here.

history

The original heather forests on the Königshöhe were probably cleared early after the settlement of the area and the hilltop was used for agriculture. Old maps show the hilltop as unwooded, in the Saxon Miles Sheet it is referred to as the Seinschkenberge and the corridors as the Hofacker .

With the establishment of the Königsbrück military training area, the summit became part of the military area in 1907, during which time it was given its current name.

On the occasion of the withdrawal of the CIS troops from Königsbrück on October 10, 1992, a large thanksgiving service with the pastors of the surrounding communities and hundreds of participants took place on the Königshöhe, which is now accessible again. The large wooden cross, created on the initiative of the Königsbrück sexton Werner Lindner, was consecrated, which is intended to encourage peaceful coexistence. The beams come from one of the destroyed villages.

Since the establishment of the "Königsbrücker Heide" nature reserve in 1996, the Königshöhe has been part of the total reserve and is only accessible on special occasions.
