The king shear ( Phalacrocorax albiventer ), also known as the king cormorant , is a very large member of the cormorant family . It reaches a body length of 69 to 74 cm and has a wingspan of 102 cm. It resembles the blue-eyed shag in plumage and differs mainly in that the shiny black plumage on the sides of the head extends down to the cheekbones and below the beak line.

It breeds in the Falkland Islands and on the eastern coast of Patagonia, as well as on the Antarctic Peninsula . It builds its nests with seaweed and feathers and forms colonies with a few dozen other pairs.
