Kitchen technical term

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kitchen terms refer to the terminology of the kitchen and cooking . Among other things, they facilitate communication in large kitchens. Since chefs from many nations and language regions often work in large companies, a standard language is necessary.

origin

The kitchen terms come mainly from the French language, because French cuisine has shaped European cuisine for centuries. At the moment, however, the French terms are being replaced more and more by English, as most modern terms are becoming more and more popular because they are easier to understand.

Kitchen terms in everyday life

Often the former French terms are "Germanized". For example, the technical term for stuffing meat “farcir” becomes “farcieren”. It also happens more and more often that the French technical term can no longer be accurately translated into German. Nobody will call a Brunoise "fine vegetable cubes" anymore .
