Bold House

The Kühn Ash House is a richly decorated under monument protection standing half-timbered house in the center of Haldensleben in Saxony Anhalt . The building used as a residential building is at 9 Hagenstrasse and the corner of Holzmarktstrasse.

history

The house was built in 1592. An extension was carried out in the 17th century. In the 19th century, the building fabric had deteriorated significantly. The master goldsmith Clemens Kühne (1834–1902) acquired the dilapidated house in 1875 and had it extensively restored. During this work, the ground floor was rebuilt. The seating niche portal from the construction time of the building was relocated from Hagenstrasse to Holzmarktstrasse. In 1905 the so-called tower house in the style of Neo-Renaissance and Art Nouveau was added on the southwest side according to plans by H. Ackermann with the house number 9a . Both buildings belong to the same property. In 1923 another restoration with alterations was carried out by the successor goldsmith master Franz Kühne (1868-1946). The sayings in the beam position are noteworthy:

Top gable side:

MY MAN CHRISTVM LOOKS AT / WHO HAS ATTACKED TO CREVTZ LAN / HIS BLVT SHED FOR MY SVND / MAKE ME GOD'S CHILD

Long side above:

I KNOW I CAN'T UNDERSTAND THIS / BLIND THE COMMUNITY? THERE ISN'T IT! / DON'T RUN TAUG 'LORD / HE IS MY LIFE AND HONOR! THIS HOUSE SAVED FROM DESTROYATION. CLEMENS BOLD. 1875

Gable side below:

THE JUSTICE I ASSISTED THV / IF I ALREADY HAVE GROS VNRVH / DON'T BE SCARED SOON, MY HERTZ / WHAT I DO THY THIS IS NOT A SCHERTZ!

Long side below:

Inside the house there is still the original historic sandstone door from the year of construction 1592 with allegorical figures and the coat of arms of the presumed builder
Lammspring . To be seen in the shop "Optics in the Kühnesches Haus".

architecture

The Kühnesche Haus has two cantilevered half-timbered upper floors, which served to make better use of the floor space. The ground floor is massive. The forms of the half-timbering are Lower Saxony . The rich ornamentation with carvings is striking. The first and second floors are decorated with leaf tendril motifs. The gable side of the top floor facing Holzmarktstrasse shows sun ornaments. Masks are incorporated into the corners to ward off ghosts and the evil eye . There are long inscriptions on the thresholds .
