Heikendorf artists' colony

The Heikendorf artist colony consisted of a group of painters in Heikendorf on the Kiel Fjord . The former home and studio of the painter Heinrich Blunck (1891–1963), an important member of the Heikendorf artists 'colony, now forms the core of the " Heikendorf Artists' Museum - Kiel Fjord", which opened in 2000 .

Atelierhaus Blunck

In 1923, Blunck and his wife bought a house with a spacious garden in Heikendorf. Gradually other artists followed, mostly from Schleswig-Holstein , and set up studios . Many of these workplaces were destroyed by bombing during World War II. Only Blunck's house was preserved and converted into a museum. Today it is entered in the list of cultural monuments in Heikendorf .

Colony artist

As a representative of Expressionism, Werner Lange (1888–1955) was a member of the artists' colony. Even Georg Burmester (1864-1936), Rudolf Behrend (1895-1979) and Oscar Droege (1898-1983) had settled there for artistic purposes.
