Kōkō Debut ( Japanese 高校 デ ビ ュ ー , Kōkō Debyū , Eng . "High School Debut") is a manga series by the Japanese illustrator Kazune Kawahara , which appeared from 2003 to 2008 in Japan. The work was adapted as a movie, radio play and light novel and can be classified into the genres Shōjo , Comedy and Romanticism.

In middle school, Haruna Nagashima ( 長 嶋 晴 菜 ) mostly spent her time playing softball and reading manga. Now at high school, she wants to become more popular with classmates and fall in love. For this, she tries to go with fashion and look cute. She has little success, but Yoh Komiyama ( 小 宮 山 ヨ ウ , Komiyama Yō ), popular with many girls, offers Haruna to help her find a boyfriend. However, the condition is that she must not fall in love with him.

Release history

The series was published from 2003 to 2008 in the Japanese magazine Bessatsu Margaret published by Shueisha . The chapters have also been published in 13 edited volumes. These sold over 300,000 copies each and were among the best-selling volumes of the week after publication. A sequel called Kōkō Debut - Enren-hen ( 高校 デ ビ ュ ー - 遠 恋 編 - , "High School Debut - Long Distance Relationship Chapter ") in two volumes so far (as of October 2013) has been published since 2011.

An English edition was published by Viz Media and the series was published by Tong Li in Taiwan. A German translation has been published by Egmont Manga since November 2013 with 14 volumes so far (as of July 2016).

A radio play was produced based on the manga and was released on CD in 2005. From 2007 to 2008, a light novel written by Yū Kuramoto and illustrated by Kazune Kawahara was published in six volumes. On April 1, 2011, the real film Kōkō Debut came into Japanese cinemas.
