Kōyō Kawanishi ( Japanese 川西 浩 陽 , Kawanishi Kōyō ; * January 18, 1959 ) is a Japanese dentist and amateur astronomer .

Kawanishi is the discoverer or co-discoverer of currently 13 asteroids . Most of his discoveries he made together with Toshirō Nomura . Today he lives with his wife and daughter in Akō in Hyōgo prefecture .

The asteroid (5591) Koyo was named after him.
