(5872) Sugano is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 30 September 1989 by the Japanese astronomer Toshirō Nomura and Koyo Kawanishi at Minami-Oda Observatory ( IAU code was discovered 374).

The asteroid was named on July 28, 1999 after the Japanese astronomer Matsuo Sugano (* 1939).
