The Kōyasan University ( Japanese 高 野山 大学 , Kōyasan daigaku ) is a private Buddhist ( Shingon-shū ) university in Japan . It is located in Kōya in Wakayama Prefecture .
history
The story began in May 1886 when the sect Kogi-ha ( 古義派 ) of the Shingon shū the seminary Kogi Daigakurin ( 古義大学林 ) founded (other Shingon sect also established their priests schools later to Taisho University merged were). The Daigakurin was renamed in 1907 in Private Kōyasan College of the Shingon Sects Association ( 私立 真言 宗 連 合 高 野山 大学 , Shiritsu Shingon-shū rengō Kōyasan daigaku ). In April 1926, the Kōyasan University was founded. In 1943 she founded the Kōyasan Research Institute for Mikkyō ( 高 野山 密 教 研究所 ), which in 1958 was renamed the Research Institute for Mikkyō Culture ( 密 教 文化 研究所 ). In February 1949 the university was reorganized under the new Japanese education system.
The sponsor of the university, the educational body Kōyasan-Gakuen ( 学校 法人 高 野山 学園 ), also supports a high school and a kindergarten.
