Emil Richli

Emil Richli (born October 24, 1904 in Zurich ; † May 13, 1934 there ) was a Swiss track cyclist .

From 1928 until his death in 1934, Emil Richli was one of the strongest track cyclists in Switzerland. During these years he started in 26 six-day races, of which he won seven, including twice that in Stuttgart , in 1929 with Pietro Linari and in 1933 with Jan Pijnenburg . He was Swiss champion of professional sprinters three times between 1931 and 1933.

Richli took part in the team pursuit at the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 and took fifth place with his team (Gottfried Weilenmann, Ernst Leutert and Arnold Nötzli). This team was identical to the championship team of the Zurich Cyclists' Association, which held the national Had won the title.

In 1934, Richli competed in the finals of the Swiss Sprint Championships to defend the title against his “student” Sepp Dinkelkamp on the Zurich-Oerlikon cycling track . He had a bad crash on launch and died in hospital two days later.
