The Kénitra Athlétic Club was founded in 1938 exclusively for Moroccan players. After playing only in the lower class in the early years, they were promoted to the first division in 1956 .

Although the first championship title was won in 1960, the 1970s and early 1980s are considered to be the club's most successful period. Three championships were won, and they finished the season as runner-up twice. He also made it into the cup final several times and made it to the final of the Arab Championship. At that time, many of the club's players were appointed to the Moroccan national football team.

In 1995 the club had to relegate to the second Moroccan league. In 2003 they were promoted again, only to relegate after only one season. For the 2007/08 season, the promotion succeeded again.
