The <kes> - the magazine for information security is a magazine founded in 1985 on telecommunications and IT security topics. The acronym kes originally stands for communication and IT security . The title of the magazine was changed during the extensive redesign in 2003 in order to take into account the impending paradigm shift from IT security to information security .

The main target group of the magazine are companies and authorities in German-speaking countries. The magazine is aimed at those responsible for IT security from all areas of an organization. In addition to dealing with organizational topics, the magazine also deals with technical topics and, according to its own statements, security-related topics from audits and security policies to encryption and access control .

The magazine is the official organ of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) and contains information that is subject to publication (e.g. certification reports).

It appears every two months by DATAKONTEXT, a company of the Hüthig Jehle Rehm publishing group . Until the end of 2015, <kes> belonged to SecuMedia Verlag (formerly Peter Hohl Verlag). In 2015/2016, the magazine said it had an average print run of 9117 and an actual circulation (tvA) of 8,679 copies.
