The KHD T6M 625 R are three-axle diesel locomotives with rod drive , which were designed for light shunting service. They were built by Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) from 1957 to 1961 and used by various private railways in Germany and Europe.

development

At the time of construction, the engine designation of the manufacturer KHD was identical to the locomotive designation. The basis for this was the introduction of a new engine series, which was designed as water-cooled two-stroke engines with cylinders arranged in a V shape. The V-arrangement made it possible to lower the height of the engines and thus lower engine hoods in order to improve the view of the route for the train driver.

The locomotives were developed as a reinforced series for tasks for which the KHD T4M 525 R was too weak. The basis was the equipment with a six-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine with 400 hp. Eleven locomotives were built. The locomotive designation is identical to the designation of the engine. In the specific case of KHD T6M 625 R , T - standing two-stroke diesel engine, 6 = number of cylinders 6, M = water-cooled, the following 6 denotes the sixth version of the engine and 25 the piston stroke in cm. The standard gauge shunting locomotive is designated with R.

The locomotives for heavy shunting were delivered to plants in Germany such as the Buggingen potash salt mine , the Klöckner Werke and the Dortmund-Hörder Hüttenunion . Furthermore, the private Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen received two locomotives. Two locomotives were sold to Italy .

technology

The locomotives were equipped with a larger front end for the machinery and a smaller front end for the auxiliaries. Every door of the machine system could be reached via the circulation in the event of a malfunction.

The machine system with an output of 400 hp consisted of a six-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine from KHD and a fluid transmission from Voith . The locomotives had a secondary gearbox with a shunting gear for speeds up to 35 km / h and a track gear for speeds up to 50 km / h.

commitment

The area of application was heavy shunting and easy handovers over short distances. In 1988 two locomotives were scrapped after the damage to the machinery, the others were sold to Italy. Most of them remain unknown .

East Hanover Railways

In 1959 the company received its two locomotives, which were sold to Italy in 1979, where they were used by various track construction companies. The locomotives were last sighted in 2002.
