The KHD T8M 625 R are two three-axle diesel locomotives built in 1956 by Klöckner-Humboldt-Deutz (KHD) with rod drive , which were designed for medium-sized shunting services. They were used by the Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen (OHE).

development

The locomotives are the slightly larger and more powerful variant of the KHD T6M 625R series . The basis of their name was the introduction of a new engine series, which was designed as a water-cooled two-stroke engine with V-shaped cylinders. The V-arrangement made it possible to lower the height of the engines and thus lower bonnets to improve the view of the route for the train driver.

The locomotives were developed as a reinforced series for tasks for which the KHD T4M 525R was too weak. The basis was the equipment with an eight-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine with 530 hp. The locomotive designation is identical to the designation of the engine. In the KHD T8M 625R , T stands for two-stroke diesel engine, 8 = number of cylinders, M = water-cooled, the following 6 denotes the sixth version of the engine and 25 the piston stroke in cm. With R a standard gauge shunting is called.

technology

The locomotives had a larger front end for the machinery and a smaller front end for the auxiliaries. Every door of the machine system could be reached via the circulation. The driver's cab was without sun protection and had retracted entry doors and, compared to the KHD T6M 625R, the front end was pulled down. The locomotives were equipped with a bell .

The machine system consisted of an eight-cylinder two-stroke diesel engine from KHD and a fluid transmission from Voith . The machine system had an output of 530 hp. The locomotives had a secondary gearbox with a shunting gear for speeds up to 40 km / h and a route gear for speeds up to 60 km / h.

commitment

United States Army Transportation Corps

The locomotives were delivered to the army in 1956 and were in service there until 1963.

East Hanover Railways

In 1963 the Osthannoversche Eisenbahnen received both locomotives, which with the KHD T6M 625R already had two similar vehicles in their stock. The locomotives were in service for 15 years. The occasional computer numbers 253 801–802 arose from the fact that the locomotive files were incorrectly available at the Deutsche Bundesbahn at the time the EDP designation was introduced .

In 1979 they were transferred to Italy, where they were used by various track construction companies. The last photographic evidence dates from 2005.
