history

Founded in 1930 under the name Wan Wu as a manufacturer of teaching materials, the company renamed itself to KHS in 1945 (the abbreviation stands for Kung Hsue She, which translates as: company that supports education and culture). In the 1950s, KHS enjoyed increasing market success in the field of musical instruments. 1956 began with the harmonica production, 1957 with the instruments for music bands. Around 1980 the company developed into a full-range supplier and began selling the wind and percussion instruments under the new name Jupiter Instruments , now one of the world's leading brands. In 1985, KHS started the Musix subsidiary for international sales. The Altus / Azumi brand for professional flutes has existed since 1990 . In 1994 the American manufacturer Ross Mallet (Schlegel, Xylophone, Glockenspiel) was taken over. Other brands include Mapex (drums), Walden (guitars), Hercules (guitar holders, stands and instrument stands) and Majestic (percussion instruments). In 1997, through its subsidiary HS Investment, KHS acquired the majority in the traditional German company Hohner (harmonicas, flutes and others), which in turn has owned Sonor (percussion instruments) since 1991 . KHS has been running a chain of stores selling musical instruments since 2004.
