history

The predecessor of today's church was built in 1862 a little north of the center of Friedrichsthal, but had to be closed due to mountain damage in 1895 and was demolished in September of the same year.

At a safe place in the mountains, the church was rebuilt between 1895 and 1897 according to plans by the architect Heinrich Güth ( Saarbrücken ), whose first church was this. The foundation stone was laid on July 28, 1895, the inauguration of the completed church on January 6, 1897.

The church suffered no major damage during the Second World War .

In the 1980s the tower had to be renovated due to masonry damage.

Architecture and equipment

The church was built in the style of historicism , mainly using forms of Staufer early Gothic . The church building, whose floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross , is a rectangular hall with a transept and a five-sided, polygonal choir , which is attached to the hall in the form of an apse . The west side of the nave is preceded in the central axis by a tower with a pointed helmet flanked by two staircases . The nave is following the principle of Saalkirche nave and after three Jochen broken by a cross zweijochigen house. Two stairwells are set in the two eastern corners of the nave and the transept. A sacristy is attached to the side of the choir .

The rising masonry is made of light sandstone , while the architectural parts are made of red sandstone as a contrast.

The interior of the church is determined by wooden fixtures , to which u. a. Belonging galleries that fill the transept arms. The large wooden half-barrel on cantilever brackets is decisive for the spatial impression . There is a rib vault in the choir apse .

The church's furnishings include benches and the pulpit , which date from the time it was built. Altar and organ , however, are of more recent origin.

The rectory , which was completed in 1895 and has no structural connection to the church building, also stands on the site of the church . The architect of the church Heinrich Güth was responsible for the design of the rectory.
