KOFA (Air Force)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

KOFA (Luftwaffe) - stands for control / flight handling equipment in the operations management service of the German Air Force (EinsFüDstLw) and is used to provide telephone, radio and LOOP communication remote stations with the associated stationary Control and Reporting Centers (CRCs), the deployable DCRC, but also in the area of Remote Radar Posts (RRPs).

definition

The KOFA CRC-IP system is a voice / data communication system in IP technology that has been optimized for military tasks . It provides a CRC with the technical means for voice communication via telephone and radio , the content of which is classified as classified information with a level of confidentiality up to GEHEIM or NATO SECRET. Furthermore, KOFA CRC-IP provides users in the CRC with access to the IT services intranet Bw and e-mail with Lotus Notes (LoNo).

Functional structure

In the following, KOFA CRC-IP is described from a functional point of view.

Sub-function 1: voice communication black

This sub-function enables the operators in the CRC to communicate with aircraft as well as with military and civilian facilities. The language of the VS-NfD classification is transmitted.

Sub-function 2: Provision of IT services intranet Bw and e-mail

This sub-function provides the operators in the CRC with access to the intranet Bw and e-mail (LoNo) services.

Sub-function 3: voice communication red

This sub-function enables the operators in the CRC to communicate with aircraft by voice using SATURN radios and to communicate with connected military facilities. The language of the classification SECRET / NATO SECRET is transmitted.

LOOP module

The LOOP module comprises the LOOP local node with local conference functions for four LOOP circles and the connection to four external LOOP conference nodes as well as a LOOP operator device gateway for connecting 10 external LOOP operator devices (AES 02.10) to the local node. The KOFA CRC-IP LOOP system is a national communication system within the Air Force that represents an independent communication level. This LOOP system corresponds to a self-contained conference system and is set up as a so-called meet-me conference. This means that the participant actively dials into the LOOP, the system itself is passive, so it cannot “dial” any particular participants. The LOOP conference system consists of four independent LOOP circles. The four LOOP circles are:

  • Tactical
  • Surveillance
  • Training 1
  • Training 2

User management

The WaSysKdo Lw is responsible for the KOFA user management. Obsolescence management, configuration control and commissioning of software maintenance / software changes (SWPÄ) also took place there.

Specialty

Ground-to-air aeronautical radio communication from the CRCs of the German Air Force with its own combat aircraft and those of NATO is usually carried out via KOFA terminals and Have Quick or SATURN systems.
