KTTS-FM is an American country music - radio station (94.7 FM) from Springfield , in the US state of Missouri , in the United States . The station is owned by the radio division of the EW Scripps Company .

history

The founder and radio pioneer GP Ward built the first station with the callsign WIAI in the Heer's Department Store in 1922 , today a historic building designated by the NRHP . Broadcasting ceased four years later. When Ward went back on the air with KFUV in 1927 , complaints arose from residents that the station significantly interfered with the reception of other radio stations. So broadcasting was stopped again.

In 1942, GPWard re-aired KTTS-AM on medium wave after a group of influential local businessmen backed him by arguing that Springfield needed more media coverage. The local newspaper and the two resident radio stations were closely connected and, in the opinion of the businessmen, did not report objectively and independently.

Founded in 1948, KTTS-FM was the first VHF broadcast in all of southwest Missouri.

Others

Former American television presenter Bob Barker began his career with KTTS in the 1940s.
