Robert William "Bob" Barker (born December 12, 1923 in Darrington , Washington ) is a former American television presenter , who is particularly known for directing several thousand episodes of the program The Price Is Right .

Life

Barker began his radio career. In December 1956 he switched to television to present the quiz show Truth or Consequences ; He led this program for 17 years before he was replaced by Bob Hilton in 1975 . As early as 1972 Barker had taken over the moderation of the program The Price Is Right , a program originally led by Bill Cullen , which the broadcaster CBS had taken over from ABC and whose German version ran from 1989 under the title The price is hot . In 2002 he broke Johnny Carson's record for the longest-time presenter on a show with this show .

He also had a guest appearance as the host of his show on the series How I Met Your Mother .

Barker announced his retirement from television in October 2006, and hosted his last issue of The Price Is Right in June 2007 at the age of 83. He was succeeded by Drew Carey .

Social Commitment

Barker is committed to animal rights. The moderator ended the most episodes of The Price is Right with a call, pets castrate or sterilize to make. He also supported this concern by setting up a foundation.

Since December 2009 a 52 m long ship named Bob Barker has been part of the fleet of the animal welfare organization Sea Shepherd Conservation Society . Barker donated $ 5 million to the organization.

Honors

A star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was dedicated to Barker . He also received a total of 19 Emmy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999. In 1996 he and Adam Sandler received an MTV Movie Award in the Best Fight Scene category for the film Happy Gilmore .
