KUMAS - Competence Center Environment

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The KUMAS - Competence Center Environment e. V. , often just called KUMAS , serves as a network for all important environmental companies and institutions in Bavaria, their knowledge transfer, information, exchange of experience and cooperation.

organization

There are currently around 200 companies and organizations in the KUMAS environmental network. Members include various cities and districts , universities and colleges , but also authorities such as the Bavarian State Office for the Environment , companies such as Daimler AG and organizations such as the German Alpine Association .

The head office of KUMAS is in Augsburg .

Goal setting

KUMAS was set up as part of the Bavarian High-Tech Offensive in order to develop and expand so-called key technologies of the new century. The competencies of various institutions in the field of environmental technologies are to be networked with one another in order to generate permanent added value and create qualified jobs.

Environmental awards

Once a year, KUMAS awards an environmental prize to up to three different processes, products, services, concepts, developments or research results as part of so-called “lead projects”, the development and implementation of which are supported primarily through the use of contacts in the context of public relations. In addition, KUMAS is entitled to propose the German Environment Prize .

KUMAS environmental award

Award winner 2010

The 2010 environmental award went to FC Augsburg , among others, for building its new stadium , the world's first climate-neutral football stadium.

Prize winner 2009

  • The "Thoma Metallveredelung GmbH" for a variable high-speed hard chrome system .
In electroplating, surfaces are coated with metal using electric current. Thanks to intelligent power management, optimized contact formation and extensive heat recovery measures, it has been possible to energetically improve the galvanic hard chrome plating process and thereby contribute to climate protection, avoid or reduce pollutants and limit the use of raw materials.
  • The "Corrmoran GmbH" and the "User Center for Materials and Environmental Research" at the University of Augsburg for Corrosion at a Glance - Online Corrosion Monitoring in Large Combustion Plants .
The problem of corrosion in waste and biomass incineration plants causes immense costs. The development of a corrosion probe at the User Center for Materials and Environmental Research (AMU) at the University of Augsburg has made it possible for the first time to measure corrosion in the exhaust gas from incineration plants in real time.
With the use of this probe, the operation of incineration plants can be optimized in terms of energy and costs can be reduced. Corrmoran GmbH, based in the UTG in Augsburg, has taken on the economic exploitation of this newly developed corrosion probe.
  • The SGL Carbon for ECOPHIT , a new graphite construction material for building.
ECOPHIT is a material made on the basis of expanded natural graphite, which enables effective building temperature control due to its fast and even temperature distribution and thus represents a basic material for air-conditioned ceilings, surface temperature systems and latent heat storage.
